In today’s Daily 3-Bet we’ll take a look at Phil Hellmuth getting real with the Wall Street Journal, Jack Sinclair snagging his first live title and the new Molly’s Game teaser.
1) WSJ Features Phil Hellmuth
Love him or hate him, Phil Hellmuth will always be a source of fascination for the mainstream media.
The Wall Street Journal published a feature on the Poker Brat over the weekend by writer Alexandra Wolfe.
Most of the material in the piece will be familiar to anyone who follows poker but there were some interesting bits about calming down and potential losing the Poker Brat temperament:
“That’s less than 1% of my life,” he says. He thinks he’s succeeded in becoming calmer, in part by focusing on the game in front of him rather than what happened earlier. But he knows he could do better. “I talk about how I’ve changed,” he says, “but then I still lose it.”
It’s not the first time that Hellmuth has talked about moving beyond the Poker Brat persona but he seems legitimately interested in changing this time around.
2) Jack Sinclair Takes Down High Roller for €250k
You never know what WSOP Main Event final table contestants will go on to do in the poker world.
Some become fixtures of the industry with multiple wins and sponsorship deals. Others are Darus Suharto.
It’s officially safe to say that English pro Jack Sinclar won’t be a one-hit wonder as he took down the €25,000 buy-in partypoker German Poker Championships High Roller at King’s Casino in Rozvadov over the weekend.
Sinclair beat none other than Tony G to take down the title and €250,000.
It’s been quite a summer for Sinclair as he also finished 8th in the 2017 WSOP Main Event for $1.2 million.
Sinclair, who is primarily an online player, had no live results prior to 2017 but he’s now up to over $1.5m. Not bad.
Meanwhile Tony G took down a very considerable consolation prize of €300,000 for finishing second thanks to a heads-up deal.
We spoke to Tony G over the summer and it sounded like he wouldn’t be playing too many more poker tournaments in the future so this could potentially be a solid one to go out on.
3) First Molly’s Game Teaser Hits YouTube
After years of development we’ve got our first look at the upcoming Molly’s Game film, based on the Molly Bloom book of the same name.
The film, which stars Jessica Chastain, Idris Elba, Kevin Costner and Michael Cera, is set to premiere Nov. 22. It was written and directed by famous scribe Aaron Sorkin.
It’s always been an unusual production because the actual high-stakes games that Molly Bloom ran involved some of the movers and shakers of Hollywood including Tobey Maguire, Ben Affleck and Leonardo DiCaprio.
From the teaser it appears that none of those actors will be making an appearance, which makes sense.
A complete trailer is set to be released tomorrow but the teaser has us intrigued. What do you think:
