Kalidou Sow Makes It 3 Tourney Wins From His Last 3 Tourney Cashes After Winamax Victory

French pro Kalidou Sow is now in his 6th year on the live tournament circuit and in just the last 3.5 months he has won $1.2m of his $1.5m total live cashes. What’s even more impressive is that his last three tournament cashes have also been outright victories against tough opposition in large field events. Sow’s third big win came on Friday as he took down the WInamax Poker Tour Paris €1,500 High Roller for $123,144.

Sow’s fantastic run of victories began last December when he bested an 855 entry field at the €5,300 Main Event at PokerStars Championship Prague for a $795,456 payday. He then went on to defeat an almost identical sized-field in the £990 Main Event at the PokerStars Festival London where he topped the 852 strong field to win the title and another $170,239 in prize money. His latest win at the €1.5k Winamax Poker Tour Paris High Roller saw him the last man standing out of 376 starters for yet another big victory worth $123,144.

The amiable Frenchman didn’t have an easy final table by any means at the Winamax High Roller which included two Winamax pros Gaelle Baumann and Ivan Deyra.

Sow started the final table in 3rd place out of 9 with 2.67m chips behind Baumann (3.01m) and Achille Samaran (3.15m). Things didn’t go like clockwork for Sow, however, and by the time the table was down to 5 players his stack had halved, leaving him just 12 big blinds. It was at this point that he made a move which seemed destined to send him to the rail. He jammed his remaining chips holding K  9  and found himself well behind chip leader Achille Samaran who called with K  Q . It took the 9  on the river to rescue Sow from a 5th place finish as his stack went back up to 2.7m.

After this Sow pretty much kept himself out of trouble as the likes of Baumann, Samaran, and Deyra perished in 5th, 4th, and 3rd respectively.

Sow began heads-up play with a big chip deficit of 4.5m to the 14m of Dutchman Kees van Brugge but he soon put his recent experiences of being one-on-one for a big title to good use, pushing van Brugge around with some aggressive post-flop play to gain a foothold in the match. He then enjoyed another huge piece of good fortune as once again the river came to his rescue. Well behind the pocket Queens of van BruggeSow was able to find an Ace on the river to match the one in his hand after playing for all his chips with A-10. Soon after a short stacked van Brugge pushed with 7-8 offsuit and was called by Sow’s J 9. The board helped neither player and Sow was crowned champion – yet again!
