Theodore McQuilkin is the latest champion at the 2017 World Series of Poker Europe, which is being held for the first time ever at the King’s Casino Rozvadov in the Czech Republic. McQuilkin outlasted a field of 240 total entries to win the fourth event of the series, the €1,650 six-max no-limit hold’em event. For the win the 24-year-old from Strasbourg, France earned €88,043 ($103,010 USD) in addition to his first ever WSOP gold bracelet.

McQuilkin is part owner in a real estate business but has played plenty of poker recently.

“I am not poker professional, but I love playing poker. It’s a real passion,” he told WSOP reporters after coming out on top.

McQuilkin came into the unofficial final table of seven in fifth chip position. He scored two knockouts in order to secure the chip lead going into heads-up play against Czech Jan Bednar. McQuilkin began with roughly a 2.5-to-1 chip lead after the final two players took an hour-long dinner break. On only the second hand back from dinner all of the chips got in preflop with Bednar holding the ADiamond SuitQSpade Suit versus McQuilkin’s KHeart SuitKClub Suit.
