Hanh Tran Wins 2018 World Series of Poker Europe €550 Pot-Limit Omaha

Hanh Tran has won the 2018 World Series of Poker Europe €550 pot-limit Omaha eight-handed event, defeating a field of 572 entries to win his second gold bracelet of the year. The 35-year-old Austrian took down the $1,500 triple draw event at the Rio in Las Vegas this summer for his first title at the series, and now just months later he has already secured his second WSOP title.

“Now, I want a third bracelet. I’m going to play more,” Tran told WSOP reporters after coming out on top.

Tran came into the final table of this event tied with Tarek Sleiman for the chip lead, with both players sitting with 38 big blinds. Oleg Pavlyuchuk scored the first knockout of the final table, eliminating Florian Sarnow (who finished runner-up in the in €1,100 turbo bounty event at this series the night before) to surge up the leaderboard.

Tran scored his first knockout of the final table when he sent Manish Goenka to the rail in sixth place ($10,710 USD). Romain Lewis busted Sebastian Obermeier in fourth place ($20,591 USD). Not long after the Frenchman found himself eliminated in third place after he tried to run a bluff on Oleg Pavlyuchuk, who had rivered a full house. Lewis took home $29,201 USD for his deep run.

With that Pavlyuchuk took more than a 2.5-to-1 chip lead into heads-up play against Tran. At one point he stretched that advantage to 5-to-1, but Tran was able to fight his way back into the lead by the time the final hand arose. With a flop of QSpade Suit7Club Suit6Club Suit the two players got all of the chips into the middle with Tran holding the 9Diamond Suit7Heart Suit6Heart Suit4Club Suit for two pair, while Pavlyuchuk had the KHeart SuitKDiamond Suit4Diamond Suit4Spade Suit. The turn was the 5Diamond Suit and the river the 2Diamond Suit, locking up the pot for Tran and eliminating Pavlyuchuk in second place. He earned $42,242 as the runner-up finisher.

Tran was awarded 420 Card Player Player of the Year points as the winner. This was his third final-table finish of the year, and it was enough to see him move into 318th place in the 2018 POYrankings.
