Jason Wheatley from Raywick, Kentucky emerged as the victor of the WSOP Circuit Horseshoe Southern Indiana Event #2: $400 No-Limit Hold’em Re-Entry after a long day of play on Sunday. The player collected $50,358, which was his first cash from the WSOP Circuit, and a gold ring for his deep run into the tournament.
Event #2 action kicked off on Friday at the host venue with the first of two starting flights. As many as 278 entries registered into the event through Flight A, but only 34 of them progressed into Day 2, which was the tournament’s final day. The 34 survivors were led by poker pro Nicholas Pupillo, who vied for his third gold ring from the WSOP Circuit series.
Flight B was played on Saturday at Horseshoe SI. It drew 485 participants to cap the overall field of the tournament to 763. Of all Flight B entries, there were only 59 to make it through the very end. Andrew Jacobs bagged the largest stack Saturday night, good for 393,000, to edge past Pupillo’s 389,500 and top the temporary leaderboard.
The Flight A and Flight B survivors combined on Sunday at the host venue where they played down to a champion. Day 2 action kicked off at 2 pm local time and ran all the way through around 3 am local time on Sunday.
Final Day Action
As mentioned earlier, Jacobs was holding the chip lead at the beginning of Day 2. However, the player failed to keep his momentum and was eventually forced out of competition to finish 66th. As for Pupillo, who was second in chips at the time cards were thrown in the air for a final day of action and who was looking to win gold ring number three, he made it down to the final 16 survivors, but eventually walked out in 16th place.
The eventual champion, Wheatley, was holding one of the top ten stacks upon entering Day 2 of play. The player kept a good momentum throughout the day to scoop the title. He faced David Wilkens from Indiana in a heads-up match that took place early into Sunday. The title was not meant for Wilkens, though, and he had to settle for a second-place finish and the amount of $31,045 in prize money.
Following his triumph last night, Wheatley told WSOP Circuit staff that he had to travel back to Kentucky, but would return to Horseshoe Southern Indiana to play the $1,700 Main Event over the weekend.
The $400 No-Limit Hold’em Re-Entry event drew a total of 763 participants. That figure represented an improvement of 123 entries from last year’s edition of the same tournament at Horseshoe Casino Southern Indiana. The amount of $251,790was generated in prize money this year and the prize pool was split into payouts for the top 81 finishers, min-cashes starting from $627.
