It only took San Francisco-native Preston Lee three cashes at the World Series of Poker before he claimed his first gold bracelet. Lee, a 32-year-old cash game grinder who currently resides in Millbrae, California, topped a field of 908 players in the $1,500 shootout event at the 2018 World Series of Poker to earn his first major title and the $236,498 first-place prize.
The tournament’s shootout structure saw players compete in three successive sit-n-go style tournaments. Players who won their first table made the money and advanced to day 2. Players who won their second table advanced to the final table on day 3.
In order to secure the victory, Lee needed to overcome a final table that included bracelet winner Anthony Reategui (3rd), as well as notables Dylan Linde (4th), Young Phan (6th), and Alexander Lakhov (8th).
Other recognizable faces to make the money included Phong “Turbo” Nguyen (11th), Phil Hellmuth (17th), Matt Waxman (20th), Jesse Sylvia (26th), Shannon Shorr (49th), Martin Jacobson (65th), Connor Drinan (68th), Russell Thomas (72nd), Justin Liberto (87th), and Rep Porter (91st).
