Scott Bohlman Wins 2018 WSOP $2,500 Big Bet Mixed Event

Scott Bohlman has won the 2018 World Series of Poker $2,500 big bet mix game event, topping a field of 205 players in this unique format that combined seven big bet games: no-limit hold’em, no-limit deuce-to-seven single draw lowball, pot-limit Omaha, pot-limit Omaha eight-or-better, big O, no-limit five-card draw high and pot-limit triple draw deuce-to-seven lowball. Bohlman earned his first WSOP gold bracelet for what was his 51st career cash at the series. He also took home $122,138 and 540 Card Player Player of the Year points for the win.

“I didn’t get to play it last year, and I didn’t realize how fun it was,” Bohlman told WSOP reporters when asked about the unique event. “It’s reasonably deep, and it’s much more fun to play a deeper stack than a smaller one.”

The 41-year-old investor from the suburbs of Chicago now has more than $1.2 million in lifetime live tournament earnings, with the majority of his cashes coming at the WSOP.

Bohlman came into the final day of this event as the clear chip leader with five players remaining. He had more than four times as many chips as the next largest stack, held by two-time bracelet winner Ryan Hughes. Bohlman maintained his lead by knocking out Marcel Vonk (5th – $23,028) and Aaron Rogers (4th – $33,344), although Hughes and two-time World Poker Tour winner Daniel Weinman had closed the gap somewhat at the final table.

Bohlman knocked out Weinman in third place, picking up trip sixes in no-limit five card draw against Weinman’s kings and deuces. Weinman did not improve and was sent home with $49,541.

With that Bohlman took more than a 4-to-1 lead into heads-up play against Hughes. It didn’t take him long to seal the deal. During a round of big O all of the chips got in with the board showing A59Q after the turn. Bohlman held the 99684 for a set of nines and a low draw. Hughes had gotten the last of his short stack with the AK862for a pair of aces and a low draw of his own. The K on the river secured the scoop for Bohlman and sent Hughes to the rail with $75,477 for his runner-up showing.
