Zhou Yun Peng Wins WSOP China Main Event For $367,000

Zhou Yun Peng made history recently after winning the first-ever World Series of Poker China Main Event for $367,000.

It was also the very first time a WSOP gold bracelet was awarded on Chinese soil. The WSOP and Tencent Pokermade a deal earlier this year, that will help the WSOP brand to make it’s way to Asia during the next 10 years.

“There is so much untapped potential in Asia and we’ve found the perfect partner in Tencent to help spread the great game throughout the entire continent. We plan to use the WSOP brand and our expertise, along with Tencent’s reach in Asia, to inspire the next generation of competitive sport players,” Ty Stewart, Executive Director of WSOP, explained the partnership earlier this year.

According to WSOP.com, Zhou Yun Peng comes from Hebei province and had the least experience in live poker tournaments of all the finalists. In fact, he had never participated in a live poker tournament prior to this one and he learnt how to play poker by watching videos and reading poker books.

In the heads-up play, Peng faced Long Rong and took down the bracelet with 2♣2♦ against Rong, who was holding A♦8♣. All the chips went in pre-flop, and the board came down showing K♦6♦4♥7♦ J♦, giving Peng a flush and the historic win.

The first-ever WSOP Main Event in China attracted also some well-known pros like Bertrand “ElKy” Grospellier, who eventually finished in 75th place after losing his last chips with pocket queens against two other players, who both held A-K, and paired their king on the turn.
