The 346 entries to the €4,300 buy-in series finale had produced a prizepool of €1,370,155, the final table of nine including German poker legend Ole Schemion and Jan Bednar, one of the Czech Republic’s most-travelled tournament players.
Schemion’s deep run was ended quickly, first to bust as his kings were cracked, his hopes of being the first player to land a second MCOP Main Event title dashed by Pascal Vos.
The top three spots would be looking at six-figure payouts, Vos just missing out on one of those when he exited in 4th, his ‘slow-played aces’ running afoul of a rivered straight for Greek player Paraskevas Tsokaridis.
The Greek player, who appears under a couple of different spellings in the database, walked off with a healthy €124,548 payout after losing a race to O’Dwyer, leaving the Dublin-born US pro to battle Paqué for the trophy.
Heads-up was a long, drawn-out affair, but the win would eventually go to the young Netherlands player, a rivered flush deciding things in his favour.
