David Coleman Wins U.S. Poker Open Event Title of 2024

In the spring of 2010, David Coleman made his debut on the live circuit, gradually amassing millions in tournament earnings by the close of 2023. Despite this success, a live title had eluded him until the early days of 2024 when he clinched victory at the Card Player Poker Tour Venetian $1,600 main event, pocketing $115,989. Since then, Coleman’s momentum has been unstoppable, claiming four PokerGO Tour titles, including his latest triumph at the U.S. Poker Open event no. 4, where he seized $202,300 in prize money, pushing his career earnings past $5.4 million.

In 2024 alone, Coleman has raked in over $1.7 million, boasting 14 in-the-money finishes and five titles. With a commanding 3,806 Card Player Player of the Year points, he leads the 2024 POY leaderboard sponsored by Global Poker. Additionally, he’s ascended to the top of the PGT seasonal rankings with 1,228 points garnered across eight cashes.

At the U.S. Poker Open, Coleman secured his second cash of the series, following his fifth-place finish in event no. 3, placing him just behind Jesse Lonis in the points race.

Starting the final day of the tournament as chip leader among the seven survivors from day 1, Coleman widened his lead by eliminating notable players like John Riordan and Jonathan Little.

Phil Hellmuth’s exit came next, followed by Dylan Weisman’s clash with Shannon Shorr, resulting in a fourth-place finish for Weisman. Despite the loss, Weisman remains a strong contender in the PGT season, trailing Coleman by a mere 102 points.

Aram Zobian fell victim to Shorr’s relentless play, ending his tournament journey in third place. Shorr then faced off against Coleman in a head-to-head battle for the title, with Coleman ultimately triumphing after a decisive hand, securing victory and sending Shorr home with $179,500 as the runner-up. Shorr’s career earnings soared to nearly $13.3 million following the event.
