Cary Katz Wins PGT Mixed Games $5,300 No-Limit Deuce-To-Seven

Cary Katz is off to a strong start in 2023. He took down the PokerGO Cup player of the series award thanks, cashing in five of the eight events that comprised that series for a total of $655,800 in earnings. Katz backed up that strong performance with a title run in the final event of the inaugural PGT Mixed Games festival. The 52-year-old businessman, poker player, and founder of PokerGO came out on top of a field of 52 entries in the $5,300 buy-in no-limit deuce-to-seven single draw lowball event, earning $83,200 for the win.

This latest victory also saw Katz secure 240 Card Player Player of the Year points. With five POY-qualified final-table finishes, a title, and $712,000 in year-to-date POY earnings, Katz now sits in 33rd place in the 2023 POY race standings presented by Global Poker.

This latest win also helped cement his hold on the top spot in the 2023 PGT points race, giving him an 89-point lead over second-ranked Anthony Hu on that leaderboard.

“After I bluffed off my chips in the $25k (10-game championship event) I went home to do some work,” Katz told PokerGO Tour reporters. “I sat at my computer and didn’t feel like working, so decided to come and play this.”

Katz now has more than $36.3 million in recorded tournament earnings after this win, enough to place him 12th on poker’s all-time money list.

Katz overcame a tough final table, outlasting the likes of recent PGT Mixed Games dealer’s choice champion Scott Abrams (8th), three-time World Poker Tour champion Chino Rheem (7th), three-time bracelet winner and WPT champion Nick Schulman (5th), two-time bracelet winner and Card Player contributor Steve Zolotow (4th), and 2022 WSOP Circuit Hard Rock Tulsa main event winner Arthur Morris (3rd).

German poker pro Johannes Becker, who finished second in the 2017 WSOP $50,000 Poker Players Championship event, also ended as the runner-up in this tournament. Becker earned $54,600 for what was his fourth cash of the series.
