WCOOP 2017: ImluckNuts Wins 17-H: $215 8-Game to Deny 7PRS Third COOP Title

On Friday night, WCOOP-17-H: $215 8-Game, $100K GTD of the 2017 World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) came to an end when Russia’s ImluckNuts prevailed over a field of 729 entries to claim a $25,879.50 first-place prize.

In the process, he stopped Canada’s 7PRS from a second WCOOP and third overall COOP titles. The win marked the first COOP-related win for ImluckNuts, who has more than $1.2 million in lifetime earnings on PokreStars. It was a bit of redemption for ImluckNuts, who back in May finished fourth in the SCOOP event won by poker pro Brian Rast.

In WCOOP-17-H, Team PokerStars Pro Chris “Money800” Moneymaker fired four bullets but failed to cash. Meanwhile, Arienne “talonchick” Rowsome fired just one and finished in 90th place for $379.08, while Andre “aakkari” re-entered once and fared much better on his second bullet, ultimately finishing in 8th place for $2,916.

Others to make the money in the top 96 were Ryan “PROTENTIALmn” Laplante (58th – $466.56), Bernardo “bedias” Dias (45th – $524.88), Robin “robinho” Ylitalo (42nd – $597.78), Simon “C. Darwin2” Mattsson (27th – $816.48), and final table bubble boy Jens “Fresh_oO_D” Lakemeier (7th – $2,916).

Here’s how things stacked up at the start of the final table:

1: 7PRS (Canada) 11,429,856
2: Brian “brianm15” England (Costa Rica) 7,969,990
3: ImluckNuts (Russia) 5,709,812
4: Gleb “psyhoagromor” Kovtunov (Ukraine) 5,446,009
5: carloshmz (Brazil) 3,222,614
6: nilef (Germany) 2,671,629

nilef the First to Go

With the stakes at 350,000/700,000, the game was Omaha Hi/Lo when ImluckNuts (4,666,812) raised to 700,000 from the cutoff with the A♠A♥Q♥K♦ and then called when nilef (1,452,879), who held the A♣3♠J♥6♥, three-bet from the small blind.

When the flop came down J♠9♦2♥, nilef bet 350,000 and then called off his remaining 52,879 when ImluckNuts raised. The 4♣ turn gave nilef a low draw, but he missed everything after the 2♠ paired the board on the river. nilef earned $4,374 for his sixth-place finish.

Brian “brianm15” England Chopped Up

After the game changed to Limit Stud Hi/Lo and the stakes to 400,000/800,000/80,000, 7PRS (7,619,366) brought it in and ImluckNuts completed to 400,000. Two-time WCOOP champ Brian “brianm15” England then raised to 800,000 and both the aforementioned players called.

On fourth street, ImluckNuts bet 400,000 after both his opponents checked. Two calls ensured and then ImluckNuts bet 800,000 on fifth after 7PRS had checked. England moved in for just 55,980 more and both his opponents called.

7PRS then bet both sixth and seventh streets and ImluckNuts called each.

7PRS: 2♠5♦ / 3♣6♥3♦7♥ / A♥

ImluckNuts and 7PRS ended up chopping with the high and low hands respectively, while England mucked and had to settle for fifth place and $7,290 in prize money.

Pat, Pat, Lose

In a round of Limit Triple Draw 2-7 Lowball, the stakes were 600,000/1,200,000 when ImluckNuts (25,652,681) raised to 1.2 million from the small blind and carloshmz (2,255,140) called from the big. The former drew three and the latter just one.

ImluckNuts checked, carloshmz bet 600,000, and ImluckNuts check-raised to 1.2 million. carloshmz called off his remaining 455,114 and both players proceeded to stand pat on the next two draws.

carloshmz tabled the T♠9♦6♥4♦2♥, but it was no good as ImluckNuts held the 8♠7♠6♦4♣2♣. carloshmz earned $10,206 for finishing third.

Kovtunov Can’t Outdraw the Competition

Not long after in the same game and stakes, ImluckNuts (19,507,795) raised to 1.2 million only to have Gleb “psyhoagromor” Kovtunov (2,307,349) three-bet to 1.8 million. 7PRS (14,634,856) proceeded to four-bet to 2.4 million, and both his opponents called, including Kovtunov calling off for his tournament life.

Kovtunov would go on to draw 2-2-1, ImluckNuts drew one each turn, and 7PRS drew two twice before standing pat on the final draw. All the while, 7PRS check-called bets from ImluckNuts on each street.

At showdown, ImluckNuts rolled over the 8♠5♣4♠3♥2♣ and it was good as both his opponents mucked. Kovtunov hit the rail in third place, good for $14,580.

7PRS Can’t Get Low Enough

The tournament came to a head in a round of Razz with the stakes at 700,000/1,400,000/140,000. It began when ImluckNuts (31,640,288) brought it in for 210,000 and 7PRS (4,809,712) called. Both players checked fourth street, and then 7PRS bet 1.4 million on fifth.

ImluckNuts raised to 2.8 million, 7PRS called, and then action repeated itself on sixth, which resulted in 7PRS getting all in.
