WPT Announces $40 Million Guarantee For 2023 WPT World Championship

The World Poker Tour has made an astonishing announcement, setting an unprecedented guarantee of $40,000,000 for its upcoming WPT World Championship at Wynn Las Vegas. This remarkable event, featuring a $10,400 buy-in, will take place from December 12th to 21st and has expanded to include an extra starting flight compared to its inaugural 2022 edition, which drew 2,960 participants.

WPT Chief Executive Officer, Adam Pliska, expressed his excitement about the event, saying, “The WPT World Championship at Wynn Las Vegas is poised to reach new heights, and we wanted to match that expectation with a guarantee that no live poker tournament has ever seen before. The journey to December begins now, and we plan on giving players another unforgettable experience at Wynn Las Vegas.”

Last year’s iteration of this tournament had a $15 million guarantee, and it nearly doubled thanks to the strong participation across three starting flights. The final prize pool swelled to $29,008,000, which was distributed among the top 371 finishers, with the eventual champion, Eliot Hudon, claiming a prize of $4,136,000. Impressively, the top six finishers all earned seven-figure paydays.

Ryan Beauregard, Executive Director of Poker Operations at Wynn Las Vegas, remarked, “The astonishing support and excitement we’ve seen from the poker community after just one year is nothing like I’ve seen before. We look forward to the 2023 WPT World Championship and hosting another industry-leading event with an unparalleled player experience.”

This year’s tournament boasts four starting flights, all in pursuit of achieving the largest guarantee in the history of poker. As outlined on the WPT website’s structure sheet, $9,800 from each buy-in will be contributed to the prize pool. This means a total of 4,082 entries are needed to surpass the monumental guarantee.

The WPT World Championship at Wynn Las Vegas festival spans from November 29th to December 23rd, featuring over 30 events. Notable highlights include the $5 million guaranteed WPT Prime Championship with a $1,100 buy-in (December 7-12), the $250,000 guaranteed WPT Ladies World Championship (December 6-8), and the $1 million Big One for One Drop (December 18-20).
